Former Yokohama Settlement No.48 Building

Built in 1883 and used by the trader J.P. Mollison as a shop until 1926, this was the first building to be constructed in the western-style in Yokohama. A unique characteristic of this building is the special brickwork method called the Flemish Bond that was used in its construction. This method is very rarely seen in Japan.This building has been designated as an Important Cultural Property by Kanagawa Prefecture.
