View of Mount Fuji

Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan. It is a dormant volcano with a beautiful independent conical shape that spreads to the Japanese coastline. When Japanese scenery is imagined, cherry blossoms and Mt. Fuji come to mind. As Mt. Fuji is well known abroad, it can be said it is one of the symbols of Japan. Mt. Fuji has been worshiped as a god. In Japanese mythology it is considered an attractive goddess. Mt. Fuji’s beautiful shape as viewed from a distance was depicted in various poetry, literature and paintings from the old days.

There are many scenic areas in Kanagawa where Mt. Fuji can be seen. An especially well known beautiful view of Mt. Fuji is seen overlooking Ashinoko lake from Hakone. Other wonderful views of Mt. Fuji include over the sea from Shonan beach, the Miura peninsula, Kamakura and Fujisawa. Mt. Fuji looks extremely beautiful when the sun sets in Enoshima.
